Thought for this morning...

2 Dogs, 2 Children, 3 Adults and 29 Inches

The past few days have been crazy days.
Our daughter, kiddos and Dre the Dachshund
have been staying here at the old homestead
because of "Jonas".
(When did they start naming winter storms?)
Knowing the storm was heading our way,
daughter Holly decided it would probably a smart
thing for the family to stay here with us,
as her little cottage home is at the end of a
dead end street that is always the last to be plowed.
Also, with the high winds being predicted,
she was concerned about losing power.
That would mean no heat, no lights
and no water as she has a well.
Our house has 2 fireplaces and a gas stove
so we would at least have heat
and a stove to cook on.

The daughter, children and dog
arrived Friday afternoon.
I had thrown ingredients for
beef stew into the crockpot for dinner
Daughter Meagan, son by love Erik and
newest grandbaby Dumplin'
who live a stone's throw from our front door,
also joined us for stew and biscuits.

Being snowed in with the grandlittles
was fun and loud and tiring.
30 minutes to get dressed to go out in
the snow with layers of "keep them warm clothes"
and boots for 20 minutes of playing in
the 29 inches of white stuff.

Finding things to keep the children occupied was
easy thanks to their Mom who brought
games and art projects to do.

Design your own night lights.

Snow painting with food coloring.

And again, out in the snow...

Holly was finally able to head home today.
As it turned out, her street was actually plowed
yesterday.  Our road wasn't cleared
until this morning.

A hush has fallen over the house.

Lucy and I agree....

that we are not looking forward
to the blizzard tomorrow and Saturday.
Lou and I have been watching the weather reports all week.
Normally a storm with lots of snow isn't a horrible thing.
The kitchen is usually stocked with enough for a week.
We have enough bread, milk and toilet paper.
It's a good time to watch old movies
and make beef stew.

However, we have tickets to see
Garth Brooks and Tricia Yearwood
this weekend.  We rarely go to concerts,
but had been to a Garth show near DC
Always thought we would like to see him live again
but he hasn't toured for years.

We actually heard about Garth coming
to Baltimore as we sat in the waiting room
at the hospital the morning our
newest grandbaby arrived.
I had just texted my aunt and uncle about
the Dumplin's arrival, saw the information about
the concert on the tv in the waiting room,
and texted them again to see if they
would like to go with us.

So the morning the tickets went on sale,
I was able to get 4 tickets,
after many tries to log into TicketMaster
and having it crash.
We've been waiting to hear if the concert would be
postponed or cancelled due to the weather.
The decision was made this afternoon
(after the Governor declared a state of emergency)
that the two shows scheduled for
this weekend have been rescheduled
for next Sunday.

Hopefully the 2 feet of snow that
will be dropping on us this weekend
will be gone by next weekend.

For the Gold...

Last week I purchased a new thistle feeder
for the goldfinches.

The other one had been around for years.
During one of the crazy, windy storms that have
passed through our little corner,
the plastic lid broke and blew away...
never to be seen again.

This new feeder has a metal lid and base
and it's easier to fill.

The birdies seem to like it...

Deep Freeze...

Warming up on the inside before
walking to the Workshop on this

beautifully clear
but frigid Maryland morning.
We've had such a mild winter so far
but over the past two days frigid air
dropped right on top of us.
Snowstorm prediction for Friday-Saturday.
Time to pull out the boots!

Good Morning Sunshine...

We had beautiful sunrise this morning.
Cold and clear.

Yesterday I had heard
we may get some snow tonight,
but now it seems we won't.

We haven't even had flurries.
It's been a no snow show winter so far.

I'm thinking one good snowstorm
and then spring can just slide in.

As lovely as the sky was earlier,
the color gray is now creeping in...

Back Tracking A Bit...Blast-Off

One evening last week, before the deep
freeze made its way into our little corner,
Gramps and the Grandlittles
went out to launch rockets.

A new generation of rocket shooters was born.
Lou did this with our daughters and
all the nieces and nephews.
Seems Santa thought it was time
to start this tradition again.

Lots of instructions and rules to follow...

 3-2-1

 And...Blast-Off!

Young legs to go fetch it when it comes back from
its journey and hits the ground is a plus.

...and we had a beautiful sunset that evening.

Our Newest...

 Our newest grandlittle...
in his Mike Wazowski getup.
(a Christmas gift from Mom Mom and Gramps)
Another reason to be looking forward
to the new year.

Day 1

We spent New Years Eve looking after these two and January 1st with a visit
to Chick-fil-A for lunch and some time at the indoor playground.
It seems that winter is finally arriving in Maryland
and this Mom Mom is going to have to ease into this cold weather.
A nice way to start the new year.
