Can't fool me???

Warm weather came early this spring. Last week, the temps were in the 90's. That forced many green growing things to pop up early. The lilacs started blooming last week , and as I walk out the door, the fragrance from the bush hits me. The azaleas are getting ready to pop open, and this is early too. I worried about those old bushes during the all the snow we had this winter. The branches were bent to the ground by the weight of the white stuff, but not one broken branch. I always remember that the azaleas in my parents yard were in full bloom on the day Lou and I tied the knot on Mother's Day weekend 35 years ago.
The warm weather tried to fool me into thinking it's time to start planting the annuals but I kept reminding myself that frost date is May 10 in Baltimore. So glad I didn't give in...it was 34 degrees here this morning.

  1. Beautiful lilacs. The azaleas are in full bloom here and other plants are beginning to bloom as well. It is staying warm here now so hopefully no more cold nights for us. Glad the warm weather didn't fool you into planting the annuls too soon.

  2. Lilacs are my absolute favorite flower! I just wish their blooming time was much longer than it is. It's just that much sweeter when they do bloom. I have two lilac bushes out front - a dark purple one and one similar to your picture. Our weather pattern is different here and mine are still getting ready to bloom - can't wait! The scent is heavenly, and because our neighbors on both sides of us have extra large bushes our backyard is fragranced, too.

  3. I love lilacs! We had one when I was growing up outside my bedroom window and I just love the smell! I have been trying to figure out where to put one in my yard so I can have that fragrance once again!

Thanks for stopping by my place! Come back anytime!

  4. I'm with Mumsy KaLynn above...beautiful lilacs! I wish we had them. Though, our azaleas have bloomed and are in their last week (they usually bloom in March here in Houston, Texas.)

  6. Aww....come on Pat..tempt fate! I've had my annuals planted since the beginning of April. The frost date is really earlier than May 10 for our area...when I lived in Sparks I wouldn't put a single flower in the ground til May 10th as invariably we would have frost but not since I've been here in Towson. I push the envelope a little each year but it pays off with pretty flowers so much sooner.
