Remembering Edna...

About 20 years ago, my brother John walked into Bill Bateman's Restaurant and was sitting at the bar. A "little old lady" came up to him and started talking. She took him by the hand, back to the table she was sharing with a younger woman. She said, "I want you to meet my daughter." That is how my brother met his beautiful future wife Marcia and the funny, kookie woman who would be his Mother-in-Law.
This was typical Edna.

A wonderful character, full of life, who spoke her mind and was always ready for a good time. She made us laugh at what she sometimes had to say and although Marcia tried to rein her in at times with, "Mother, that's enough" it never worked. Edna liked my husband, and more than once told me that Lou must really love me because of the way he looked at me and then would turn to Marcia and ask why John didn't look at her that way.

Edna was so happy when John and Marcia got married and more than once over the years she had commented, "I so glad we married John." Of course, she had taken matters into her own hands to get the two of them together.

We lost Edna today at the age of 95. While we will miss this one of a kind woman who was so loved by so many, heaven is lucky to have a wacky, wonderful new soul.

  1. This post just warmed my heart. Edna sounds like a truly wonderful lady. Heaven has certainly been blessed at least 2 times in the last few weeks. I (along with many, many others) lost a wonderful friend not long ago. I sure hope the angels introduce Edna to Helen. I just know they'd get along famously.

  2. What a wonderful memorial post. You should be so proud to take the time to do this for Edna. To live until she was 95 is a blessing and it seems that she was blessed with having people like you to appreciate her. It was also a great story that you told about your brother and Edna! I may emulate Edna to introduce my son one day to a nice girl that I see! He's only 20, so I have time to plan my 'speech' to copy Edna. :)
    God bless you, and Edna!
    Best,
    Gloria

  3. Pat,

Sorry for your families loss. What a nice tribute to Edna. She's probably reading it, with a big smile on her face and thinking, boy does Pat have me pegged! LOL! It's wonderful to have such nice memories to share.

  7. Edna was always the life of the party. Her honesty was sometimes shocking (especially when I was young), but it always made me laugh. Whenever I think of her, I can't help but smile.
