Abe...

It was a history filled weekend for Lou and I.  Saturday night we watched Killing Lincoln on the National Geographic Channel.  For some reason, I had thought that John Wilkes Booth was actually burned in the tobacco barn where he was hiding and there was always a doubt that the body might not be his.  In this show, he was pulled out of the building and died from a gunshot wound.  The Booth family physician identified the body but the photo taken at the autopsy did mysteriously disappeared.  Maybe that is why I thought there was a question about his identity.

Sunday afternoon, we decided to go to the theater to see the movie Lincoln.  We've been trying to do that since before Christmas and every time we thought we could get away for a few hours something came up...  Sunday morning we ran out for the breakfast buffet at the Gunpowder Lodge.  Since we were were in clothing other than our work clothes and I actually had make up on, we thought this afternoon would be a good time to see Lincoln.  Lou and I made it to the theater about 10 minutes before the show started...thinking the production had been out for months and that would give us plenty of time to get pop corn and be seated.  Didn't give a thought that the Oscars were being given out tonight and many folks would want to see a movie that was up for best picture.  We walk in and the only available seats were in the front row and all the way to the right side of the theater.  I'm thinking I need to watch this movie again sometime  A wonderful movie, but we saw it in a such a distorted way.  Heads back and so close that we had to turn our heads back and forth constantly to see the entire screen. Everything on the screen was stretched.  We probably should have walked out and asked for our money back.
Daniel Day-Lewis did an amazing job playing Abraham Lincoln.
Sally Field was a wonderful Mary Todd Lincoln.

History shows us...the more things change, the more they stay the same.

  1. I'm back from my blogging break. Check my post for today, you'll find it interesting.

I seldom see movies but did see 'Lincoln.' I hardly moved through the whole movie. When it was over I found the ice in my drink had melted & I'd never taken a sip. I was totally spellbound. I'm sorry it did not win more awards.

  2. We totally enjoyed the movie. The acting was superb. It deserved more awards than it got, in my opinion.
