October...

Wow... September certainly has flown by.
I can't believe that we are going into the last 3 months of this year.
How quickly time is speeding by.
I guess the old saying is true...The older you get the faster time seems to pass.
Or could it be that when you always have so much to do you just
miss some of the hours in a day and  all of a sudden it's night?

A Line in the Sky...

The sky here in our little corner has been gorgeous....
Yesterday we had this line of clouds that looked like a snow pile
made by a plow after clearing a road.
Couldn't see the end of this white fluffy looking right or left.
Five minutes later it was gone.

This morning I cut some of the last of the hydrangeas of this season.
These lovelies come from a white bush that is always the last to bloom.
In the fall they turn shades of green, pink and burgundy.
I really am not looking forward to winter.

Hocus Pocus...

I just love this witchy Halloween movie...Whenever Lou or I see a reference to this
we look at each other and say, "Amuck , Amuck, Amuck."

Apple Dumplings...

Took a trip to the local farm and picked up apples...honeycrisp apples and decided to make apple dumplings for dessert.  I really have never had a written recipe that I use.
I just always have "put them together."
This is for 4 apples.

I peeled and cored the apples.  As I am horrible at making pie crusts,
I cheated and used the premade Pillsbury pie crusts.
Cut the round pie crust into quarters, take two pieces
and put the two rounded edges together and set an apple on it.

I took a "hunk" of butter and put it in the hole of the cored apple
and added a mixture of white sugar and cinnamon into the hole, over the butter.
Probably about a teaspoon full.

Then pull the pie crust up around the apple
.
Put in a baking pan.

In a saucepan combine 3/4 cup of water, 1/2 cup of white sugar, 3 tablespoons of butter
and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar has dissolved
.
Pour this over the dumplings.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes.

This was our dessert tonight... still warm with vanilla ice cream.

Confessed to using premade pie crusts but I also can't make gravy...
My Mom just shakes her head.

Shades of Autumn

We finally had some rain here in our little corner yesterday.
Started early evening and was heavy for a while but then became just a gentle shower.
Wow did we need it.

Beautiful Shades of Autumn...
this maple in our yard never fails to put on a show.
Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day.

Vintage Christmas Lovelies...

I found these lovely vintage Russian glass pinecone ornaments on Etsy.

Love the colors...although it took two orders to get this variety of hues.
I did actually read the listing which stated that color quantity may vary.

I received 2 gold, 2 light green and 1 purple but
I wanted some of the more vibrant colors.
I purchased a second box and received 2 pink, 2 purple and 1 turquoise.

I believe they're hand painted and from the 60's.

New old ornaments for my Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas to Me a bit early...

The Enchanted Forest and Elioak Farm

Took the munchkins to Elioak Farm in Clarksville on Friday. There are attractions from Enchanted Forest that have been restored.

The Enchanted Forest was a park that had attractions based on fairytales and children's stories.  My grandparents took me there as a child and I took my daughters when they were young.  Unfortunately it closed and the attractions fell into disrepair.
With the help of  many volunteers, the folks at Clark's Elioak  Farm have recreated many of the original attractions.

There are also picnic areas, playgrounds and a petting zoo.

The grandchildren, Gramps and Mom Mom had a wonderful day together.

The old folks slept well that night.

This Beautiful Day

Beautiful Day Here Today but.

I won't get to see much of it...
Lots of painting, sanding, spraying, wrapping
and shipping to do.

One of the hardest things to deal with when you work in your backyard is making yourself go to work on a beautiful day.  No one would miss me if I don't show up for work.  I feel like I'm in a cartoon with a little devil on one shoulder whispering, "Don't go, no one will know." and an angel on the other shoulder saying, "But you have so much to do...get up to that shop."
I always go to the shop though...but maybe I can sneak out early
and soak in some of this lovely day.

It's All Happening at the Zoo

We had the grandchildren with us for a few days and Saturday we took the kids to
The Plumpton Park Zoo in Rising Sun, MD.

Lou and I had passed the sign for the zoo on our travels
over the years but had never visited before.
So happy that we made the trip.  The children had a wonderful time
and so did Mom Mom and Gramps.
